The gourd (葫芦, hulu) is one of the oldest and most persistent symbols of good fortune in Chinese culture. Its name sounds like "blessing and prosperity," its shape resembles the number eight (a lucky number), and its traditional use as a medicine container associates it with protection from harm. Daoist immortals are often depicted carrying gourds from which they dispense healing — not literal medicine, but wisdom, clarity, and the particular kind of good fortune that comes from living in harmony with the natural world. These earrings feature miniature gourd-shaped charms in sterling silver with freshwater pearl accents, suspended from sterling silver ear wires.
The gourd charms are cast in sterling silver, their shape a classic double-lobed gourd — the rounded upper chamber tapering to a narrow waist and expanding again into the larger lower chamber.
