Baroque Lapis Lazuli Bracelet
Description
Lapis lazuli does not look like it belongs to this planet. Its deep royal blue — the blue of twilight over desert mountains, of the deepest part of the ocean where sunlight cannot reach — is so saturated, so intense, that it feels like a color from another world. And yet it is entirely terrestrial: a metamorphic rock formed in the limestone deposits of Afghanistan's Badakhshan province, where it has been mined continuously for over six thousand years. This bracelet features baroque-cut lapis beads — irregular, organic shapes rather than perfect rounds — interspersed with baroque pearls and sterling silver spacers.
The baroque cut is a deliberate choice. A perfectly round lapis bead is a product of the lapidary's skill. A baroque lapis bead is a collaboration between the lapidary and the stone — the cutter following the natural shape of the rough material, preserving as much of the original crystal as possible, letting the stone dictate its own final form. The gold pyrite flecks that are lapis's signature are more visible in these baroque cuts, scattered across the surface of each bead like stars in a midnight sky.
- Natural lapis lazuli — baroque-cut beads with visible gold pyrite inclusions, sourced from Afghanistan
- Genuine baroque freshwater pearls
- Sterling silver spacers and secure clasp
- Hand-strung on durable jeweler's wire
- Nickel-free and hypoallergenic
Lapis was ground into ultramarine pigment by Renaissance painters — a pigment so expensive that it was reserved for the robes of the Virgin Mary, a blue more precious than gold. To wear lapis is to participate in a six-thousand-year human conversation about what is beautiful and why. Style this bracelet with white, cream, gold tones, or deep indigo to let the lapis's blue command the composition. A piece for the woman who trusts her own taste — the kind of taste that does not need trends to tell it what is worth treasuring. Store away from prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the lapis's deep color.
